When a root canal procedure is completed in a single visit, the root canal is obturated and free access is gained to the apical foramen through the root canal using mechanical means. RCT performed in a single sitting is very common today. It entirely depends on the tooth and the degree of the infection being treated in that tooth. Two sittings are typically needed for the treatment of an apically infected tooth because it may not be finished in one visit and may result in additional issues. In the majority of cases, capping is necessary; however, the amount of remaining tooth structure will determine this need.
